When he started to talk about the gangs around his neighbor hood and how it was viewed by others I understood why so many kids join gangs. In his case hw was abused and some what neglected by his family. He like many others saw the gnags as more than just claiming colors or holding down a block it was family. That was something he longed for, for people to actually care for him and want him around. He felt for the first time in his life, loved.
As time went on and he got more involved he realized gangs weren't families. It became clear to him when one of his guys violated the gangs laws by snorting coke. His punishment was a three minute violation head to toe. Then another day some other guy was order on S.O.S. meaning shoot on sight. The reason for it was because they gang speculated that he was selling drugs without their permission. So that's when he finally opened his eyes. An actual family wouldn't turn their backs on you with a blink of an eye.
